Uddina Hittu Gojju / Udnittu Recipe.

Uddina Hittu Gojju is a well known side dish, which is eaten along with hot rice. If you go through the priority list among south kanara recipes then Uddina hittu recipe tops the list. Urad dal flour is nothing but powdered black gram flour which is readily available in the grocery stores. You can even prepare your own home made Urad Dal powder by roasting the urad dal for around 5 minutes in the pan, cool it and powder it in the mixer and your instant home made urad dal powder is ready within 15 minutes. The taste and aroma of the uddina hittu gojju  is so appealing that I am sure you will end up in having a heavy meal. The spicy green chillis and the chopped ginger pieces entice your taste buds. Usually this uddina hittu is eaten along with sendige menasu ( dried green chillis ) and a dash of coconut oil. Urad dal flour recipe or uddina hittu gojju recipe comes in very handy during your busy schedule since it does not take much time to cook.


Uddina Hittu Gojju Recipe.

This is one of the simplest side dish and the time taken to prepare it is around 10 minutes. The quantity mentioned here is enough for 3 servings.

Uddina Hittu Gojju Ingredients.

  • Urad dal flour ( black gram flour ) - 2 tbsp.
  • Green chillis - 5.
  • Salt - as required.
  • Ginger - 1 inch.
  • Asafoetida - A small pepper corn sized.
  • Curds - 1 / 2 cup.
  • Water - 1 / 2 cup.
  • Onion ( Optional ) - 1
For seasoning:
  • Red chilli ( byadige ) - 1.
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp.
  • Curry leaves - 2 string.
  • Coconut oil - 2 tbsp.

Method To Make Udnittu Gojju.

  • Chop green chillis, onions and ginger into small pieces.
  • Take a deep sized bowl and add the chopped green chiilis, ginger and onions into it.
  • Add salt, asafoetida  and 1 / 2 tsp of oil into the bowl.
  • Mix it and squeeze the mixture well with your hands.
  • Now add curds and urad dal powder into the bowl.
  • Mix it well.
  • Dilute the gojju by adding water as per your choice.
  • Heat a small pan for the seasoning.
  • Add coconut oil, broken red chilli, mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves into it.
  • When the ingredients starts spluttering, transfer the seasoning into the bowl and mix it well.

Your spicy and tasty uddina hittu gojju is ready to be served!!!

KitchenMasti Points.

  1. Uddina hittu gojju should be in a dropping consistency as that of  urad dal dosa batter ( Plain Dosa Batter ).
  2. Adding chopped onions are optional.
  3. For this particular udupi style recipe, it is very vital that you have to always season it with coconut oil and there is no compromise in that matter.
  4. Increase the quantity of chopped green chillis if you want a more spicier taste.
