Cabbage Rice Recipe

Posted by Veena Karanth at 02:25:00
This cabbage recipe of mine is one more addition to the rice recipes collection of KitchenMasti. Cabbage, a leafy vegetable is a natural cleanser and helps you in keeping cancer at bay. Cabbage is available in 2 colors i.e purple and green, the one which is commonly available. The purple colored cabbages are usually used in salads. You can prepare lots of dishes using cabbage such as cabbage parathas, sauteed cabbage etc. It is also used in many Chinese dishes like schezwan noodles, veg noodles and so on. Here, rice is mixed with cabbage, garlic and green chillis.

Cabbage Rice

How To Prepare Cabbage Rice.

As far a spice quotient is considered, this tastes very mild. The rice has to be cooked separately. Once the rice is cooked, it hardly takes around 10 minutes to mix it with chopped cabbage.

  • Raw Rice or Basmati Rice - 1 cup.
  • Green cabbage - 2 cups.
  • Green chills - 5.
  • Ginger - 1 inch
  • Garlic cloves - 2
  • Coconut grated - 1 / 4 cup.
  • Coriander leaves - 3 sprigs.
  • Cashew nuts - 10.
  • Butter or ghee - 2 tbsp.
  • Salt - As required
  • Onions - 2

Method To Make Cabbage Rice.

  • Wash the rice thoroughly, boil it and keep it aside.
  • Chop the cabbage into fine juliennes.
  • Now, heat a big pan with either butter or ghee in it.
  • When heated, add cashew nuts into it.
  • Fry in medium flame till it changes its color into light brown.
  • Add chopped green chillis, onions and fry for around a minute.
  • Now, add ginger garlic paste and chopped cabbage.
  • Add salt and mix it well.
  • Fry for around 4 - 5 minutes till the cabbage is slightly cooked.
  • Finally, add the cooked rice and mix it well.
  • Garnish it with coconut scrapings and chopped coriander leaves.

Your mild and simple cabbage rice is ready to be served.!!!

Kitchen Masti Points.

  1. Fry the cabbage in such a way that it should not loose its crunchiness.
  2. You can add 1 tsp of lemon juice for a slight tangy taste but it is entirely optional.
  3. 1 / 2 tsp of pepper powder can also be added to make it more spicy.
  4. You can use either ordinary raw rice or basmati rice for cooking this dish.
  5. You can either add chopped ginger juilennes or ginger garlic paste as I have used in this recipe.
