Rava Rotti Recipe

Rava roti is a soft roti prepared out of semolina or rawa, which is quite famous in Mangalore region. Unlike Rava Dosa recipe , here, the batter is in a semi solid consistency and more over this roti has to be roasted in a low flame to attain the desired amount of crispiness.

How To Prepare Rawa Roti.

This rava rotti is very tasty and goes well with coconut chutney. The ingredients mentioned here is enough for 2 servings.

Ingredients For Rava Roti.

  • Rava / semolina - 1 cup.
  • Coconut scrapings - 1 / 2 cup.
  • Salt - as required.
  • Green chilli - 3
  • Coriander leaves - 3 sprigs.
  • Coconut oil - for greasing
  • Water  - as required ( to mix the batter.)
  • Curds or butter milk - 1 / 4 cup.

Method To Make Rava Roti.


  • Take a big mixing bowl and rava into it.
  • Add curds, chopped onions, green chilli, coriander leaves, coconut scrapings, salt and mix the ingredients along with 1 / 2 cup of water.
  • Mix well and add more water only if needed.
Rava Rotti Batter

  • Meanwhile heat a tawa or a nonstick pan.
  • Pour 1 ladle full of the batter and spread evenly over the tawa.
  • Close the lid and leave it for around two minutes for the roti to get roasted.
  • Spread 1 tsp of coconut oil on all over the dosa and flip it on to the other side to get roasted.
  • When the roti is evenly roasted transfer it to the serving plate.

Your healthy and delicious rava roti is ready to be served.!!!

Kitchen Masti Points.


  1. Use medium rava for best results or alternatively you can use small variety of rava.
  2. See to it that the curds or buttermilk is not sour.
  3. You can eat it with coriander chutney.
  4. You can use any oil for roasting but coconut oil is the best combination.
  5. Using onion is optional.
  6. This dish is best for people who observe semi fasting.
