Aloo Bhaji ( Potato Bhaji ) Recipe

Potato bhaji or aloo bhaji is a traditional recipe which goes on well with several dishes like puri, chapati, masala dosa, stuffed idli and the list goes on. Potato is a very versatile vegetable and it is used in many dishes especially when there is a need for binding. Due to this quality it is found in many fried snacks.

How To Prepare Potato Bhaji ( Aloo Masala ) .

This dish requires around 30 minutes to prepare .

Ingredients For Potato Baji.


  • Potato ( aloo ) - 1 / 2 kg.
  • Onion - 3.
  • Green chilli - 4.
  • Curry leaves - 2 strings.
  • Salt as required.
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp.
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Ginger - 1 inch.
  • Coriander leaves - 2 sprigs.
  • Oil - 2 Tbsp.
For Seasoning ( Tadka )

  • Broken Red Chilli - 1 
  • Urad Dal ( Black Gram ) - 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 / 2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 string

Method To Make Potato Bhaji.


  • Wash and boil the potato in the pressure cooker or microwave it.
  • When cooled, remove and peel the skin of the potatoes. Mash it and keep it aside.
  • Heat a pan or a deep Kadai with oil in it.
  • Add broken red chilli, urad dal ( black gram ), mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • When it starts spluttering, add chopped onions, green chillies, ginger and fry till the onions are translucent.
  • Mix in boiled and mashed aloo, salt, turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Finally switch off the gas flame and add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.

Your spicy potato Masala is ready to be served.!!!

  1. You can omit onions if you do not like them.
  2. You can add chopped tomato and boiled peas for a different taste.
