Nendra / Nendran Banana Halwa Recipe

Posted by Veena Karanth at 07:34:00

This sweet dish generally known as nendra banana halwa which is black in color is very tasty. There are different types of bananas available in the market . But here in this recipe I have used a banana called nendran banana which is originally from Kerala.. Nowadays these bananas are available in markets,So one needn't worry about the availability. People use raw nendra banana for preparing chips which is a very famous Kerala food.

In Kerala people usually steam these bananas and eat in the mornings. It is very beneficial for women with menstrual problems. The localities of Kerala use this banana in almost every recipe.

The banana contains lots of vitamins which makes it even more healthier food. It is generally believed that bananas help people to overcome their depression. They are highly rich in pectin which helps you a great deal in digestion. That is the reason it is advised to eat a banana after an heavy meal. As it is very rich in fiber content, it acts as a boon for people who are suffering from constipation since it relieves the bowel moments. Banana also strengthens your blood flow as it is rich in iron content and also helps people who are suffering from anaemia

  • Ghee - 2/4 cup
  • Cardamom - 2 or 3
  • Cashew Nut Pieces - A Few

Method To Prepare Nendran Banana Halwa

  • Firstly, peel the banana skin and blend it in the mixer to a smooth pulp.
  • Take a heavy bottomed vessel or kadai.
  • Heat it and add the banana pulp, sugar, and half of the required ghee.
  • Keep Stirring
  • As the pulp tends to become thicker and tougher, add more and more ghee.
  • Finally, the pulp will turn its color into dark black
  • Now add a few cashew nut pieces
  • Add cardamom powder and ghee if necessary.
  • Transfer it to a ghee greased plate and flatten it with a spatula ( big spoon)

Nendra Banana Halwa Recipe

Kitchen Masti Points

While choosing bananas for this halwa, ripe bananas should be chosen. The more ripe the bananas are, the more tastier the halwas are. You can prepare the same recipe with green bananas also but you ll get a different taste. You have to use a thick bottomed vessel or pan while preparing this halwa as it has a tendency to get burnt. Therefore,  you should stir it till the final stage
The halwas you get in markets are usually harder compared to the ones prepared at home. So my sincere suggestion is to prepare halwas at home which are more healthier and clean too.

Thats all!!!

hi jeff,
no ingredient is required for solidifying the halwa, but the secret lies in stirring the halwa for around 40 - 45 minutes. It automatically gets thickened.
