Dahi Bhindi Recipe

Dahi Bhindi Recipe is a curry which is very mild and simple in taste and goes on well with chapathi and rotis. Dahi bhindi can be prepared in 2 - 3 ways, of which, I will be showing this method that is quite easy and popular too. Here, we mix bhendi with a onion paste along with a few spices and tomato. Bhendi recipes are favourite among many people and it is quite healthy due to the calcium and other vitamins. Recently, the demand for bhindi has increased among the diabetic sector because of its medicinal values that could control the blood sugar. So, lets start with our dahi wali bendi recipe.


How To Prepare Dahi Bendi : Okra Dahi Recipe.

The time taken to prepare Dahi Bhindi gravy is around 20 minutes and the quantity mentioned here is enough for 3 servings.

Ingredients For Dahi Bhendi Masala.

  • Ladies finger / bhendi / okra - 250 gms.
  • Curds / Yoghurt - 1 cup.
  • Salt - as required.
  • Ginger - 1 inch.
  • Garlic - 1 clove.
  • Onion - 1.
  • Tomatoes - 1.
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp.
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp.
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp.
  • Jeera seeds ( cumin seeds ) - 1 / 2 tsp.
  • Garam masala - 1 / 2 tsp.
  • Sugar 1 / 4 tsp.
  • Oil - 2 tbsp.

Method To Make Dahi Bhindi Curry

  • Wash the ladies finger thoroughly and pat dry it.
  • Discard the top and the bottom potion of the ladies finger.
  • Chop the bendis into 1 inch sized pieces.
  • Heat a pan with 1 tbsp of oil and saute the bhendis in a medium flame for around 5 minutes. Set it aside.
  • Grind the chopped onion, ginger, garlic into a fine paste.
  • Whisk the curds.
  • Now heat a pan with  a little oil in it.
  • Add jeera seeds and when it starts to crackle, add the ground masala.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and fry till it is mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and salt into it.
  • Now pour in the whisked curds and a little sugar into the gravy.
  • Finally add the fried  bhindi and mix it well.

Your tangy and tasty dahi bhindi is ready to be be served !!!

KitchenMasti Points.

  1. See to it that you do not use sour curds.
  2. Instead of frying the bendi with oil, alternatively soak the bendis in tamarind syrup for 5 minutes and then you could use the bendi.
  3. If you do not like garlic, then you may omit the same.
  4. Sugar is optional. I have used sugar in this recipe in order to balance the tanginess of the curds and tomato.
  5. This is not the dahi bhindi ki sabzi recipe, but the gravy version of it.
